The dynamic development of the wind energy market is an opportunity for investors. Many companies, including global giants, have long been interested in offshore and onshore projects that could be built in Poland. Especially since past experience shows that it is really possible to make a lot of money on wind farms in Poland. What are the prospects for this sector of the economy?
Wind energy – what are the prospects for Poland?
Ørsted is a Danish company with global reach, which is a world giant in the construction of offshore wind farms. Therefore, it can be assumed that the forecasts prepared by this company and the adopted directions of its development are a very good barometer of the situation in the wind energy market. According to the statements of Ørsted representatives available in the media, Poland is among the strategic markets for this entity. This is all the more important when one takes into account that it is Ørsted that is implementing, together with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, two important offshore wind energy projects in Polish waters of the Baltic Sea, i.e. Baltica 2 and Baltica 3.
Polish authorities in recent years have unequivocally prioritized the development of offshore wind projects. Suffice it to recall that offshore wind farms are expected to generate 18 GW of power by 2040. Besides, given the dynamics of wind farm construction in the Baltic states, Poland has a chance to become a kind of transmission hub for green energy to other countries in the region. This, in turn, requires efforts to modernize the transmission line and expand the existing power grid.
How much money can be made from a wind power plant?
In addition, offshore and onshore wind farms represent a business opportunity. This is well illustrated by available statistics. Last April, cleanerenergy.co.uk published data according to which the profits of the onshore wind industry for 2022 amounted to as much as PLN 5.5 billion gross. Operators of large wind farms, producing capacities above 10 MW, earned the most. This sector generated profits of up to PLN 4.1 billion, with as much as PLN 8.7 billion from sales. In other words: the more power a wind farm generates, the more lucrative business you can do on it.
