Funds for the construction of wind farms

Wind farm include not only large farms built on land or sea. A windmill can also produce energy consumed by a single household or business, operating on similar principles as the photovoltaic installations popular in Poland. A special program allowing to obtain financing for this kind of investment will soon appear. What is worth knowing about it?

My wind power plant – what it is supposed to be about

The “My Wind Power Plant” program will be operated by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. Its budget is to be 400 million zlotys, and investors will be able to obtain support not only for the wind turbine itself and the associated technology, but also for energy storage. This will make it possible to realize a comprehensive installation. After all, always the energy storage allows to achieve a higher level of self-consumption of the produced power, mainly due to the possibility to use RES resources during the time when the installation is not working for natural reasons.

The My Wind Farm rules stipulate that financial assistance will be provided for the construction of wind turbines no higher than 30 meters, with a maximum capacity of 50 kW. The installation – including energy storage – will be allowed only to cover the investor’s needs.

The program’s beneficiary will be entitled to obtain coverage of 50 percent of eligible costs, but no more than PLN 30,000 per wind installation, with the cost of the installation not to exceed PLN 5,000 per 1 kW of power. The threshold of 50% of eligible costs is also to apply to energy storage facilities. Here, in turn, the requirement will be the purchase of storage with a minimum capacity of 2 kWh. At the same time, the maximum subsidy will be allowed to amount to PLN 17 thousand or PLN 6 thousand per 1 kWh of energy storage capacity.

How to get support for the construction of windmills?

So far, the date of the call for the indicated program has not been published, but it is already known that its implementation has been scheduled until the end of 2029. Thanks to this, those interested in building a backyard windmill will gain interesting prospects for obtaining the necessary financing for the investment, and consequently gain their own source of green energy. Owners of backyard photovoltaics should also think about it, as they will gain an additional source of RES through the construction of their own wind farms.
