Interesting combination of photovoltaics and wind power

Green energy is an extremely rapidly developing branch of the economy – also in terms of introducing technological innovations into everyday use. Among them, installations that allow combining the production of clean energy from wind turbines and photovoltaic panels stand out. In Polish conditions, where photovoltaics are very successful, such a combination allows to significantly increase the efficiency of RES installations. What exactly is this solution based on?

Photovoltaic panels plus wind turbine

Hybrid installations – consisting of solar panels and wind turbines – are gaining in popularity. This is a relatively new solution, tested primarily in small, prosumer installations, but you can already find much more complex projects on the market. The premise is very simple. Within one installation, electricity is produced by both PV panels and a wind turbine. This significantly increases the efficiency of the RES technology used.

Significantly, in Polish conditions the strongest wind occurs in autumn, winter and early spring, that is, at times of the year when, in turn, there are the least sunny days, which, of course, translates into a reduction in the production capacity of photovoltaics. Therefore, the combination of these two technologies greatly improves the prospects for the continuous generation of green energy. And this is generally what the energy transition is all about – the ability to use clean energy all year round.

TAURON invests in modern solutions

TAURON recently completed a 50 kW hybrid installation – of which 30 kW comes from PV panels and 20 kW from wind turbines – on the site of the municipal company Aqualift Międzychód. The generated electricity will be used for the needs of this company. According to available data, gusts of speed of 1m/s are sufficient for the rotor blades to start working.

The development of green energy is closely related to the implementation of modern technological solutions and their development. Therefore, it is necessary to keep a close eye on the fate of such investments as hybrid RES installations in order to learn from their operation. However, a lot of data already indicates the high profitability of such installations. All the more reason, therefore, to invest in their further technological development.
