PGE Baltica is embarking on a major geological survey of the Baltic seabed, necessary for the construction of the installations that make up the wind farm. This is an important step on the way to realizing this goal.
The most important purpose of the research is to obtain basic information on the geological shape of the land on which the farm installation is to be sited.
This is primarily to select the optimal site for the wind turbine towers and to obtain data to plan the next stages of work on the farm.
The Baltica 1 Offshore Wind Farm is expected to have a capacity of about 0.9 GW and to be located roughly at Leba – 80 km from the coastline. It is one of three offshore projects being developed by PGE Baltica.
Currently, the project has already gained a location permit, and a study of wind, sea currents and ripples has been underway for two years. Geological work is therefore the next step here.
