Facilities for home windmills

The leader in home RES investments undoubtedly remains photovoltaics. However, lawmakers want to greatly simplify the construction of similar wind turbines. Are we in for a boom in windmills located near homes?

The amendment to the Construction Law, designed by the Ministry of Development and Technology, envisages allowing prosumers to build backyard wind turbines on the basis of a notification, without the need to obtain a construction permit.

The new regulation is to cover technical devices with masts that allow the production of power such as in micro-installations and with a total mast height of more than 3 meters, but less than 23 meters.

On the other hand, windmills producing power with a height of less than 3 meters will be exempted from the need for construction formalities at all, including notification.

It’s certainly an interesting legislative initiative, but its practical application will largely depend on technical issues, installation prices and support systems – without these, prosumers may have doubts about the viability of building home windmills.
