A wind farm is a source of cheap and clean energy, but its construction always means a serious business venture, involving the need to invest considerable funds. Of course, this does not mean that the investor must cover the entire budget for the construction of a wind power plant alone. On the contrary, it is always advisable to find adequate financing. How to do it? How to finance the construction of a wind farm?
Wind farms – possible financing models
The most important issue is that the financing model for a wind farm should be adapted to its size. After all, the more power an investor wants to acquire, the greater the expenses he has to incur. A wind power plant may turn out to be an expense of even several million zlotys, which is why investors usually use the special purpose vehicle formula, which allows to minimize the business risk associated with the construction of the farm – especially for other projects implemented by the builder. In addition, the SPV allows to attract other investors or to interest financial institutions in the project
In the Polish reality, bank loans are still crucial in covering the costs of building a wind farm. Among borrowers, you can also find those who offer special products dedicated just to wind power plants. An investor should never forget that the construction of a wind farm is a project spread over several years, so throughout the planned time of the investment its financing, including, in particular, the service of a possible loan, should be secured.
In addition, when building a wind farm, it is worth remembering the various types of support programs designed for this type of RES investment. Both national and EU funds are involved here. In particular, European Union funds provide ample opportunities to obtain subsidies for wind farms. It seems that the pool of such funds will only increase, which is closely correlated with the ambitious energy transition goals set by the European Union. From the point of view of building a wind farm on the Vistula River, it is of great importance to unlock the funds of the National Housing Plan as soon as possible, in which subsidies are planned for the construction of virtually all types of green energy sources.
