THE BEGINNING OF THE KEY WORKS

ORLEN S.A. announces that on October 4, work was completed on the first borehole under the waterfront, beach and seabed, which is necessary for the construction and subsequent operation of Baltic Power.

The work was carried out in the vicinity of the town of Lubiatowo, and used a technology – not previously used in Poland on such a large scale – guided drilling.

The drilled tunnel is 1.4 km long and was designed to accommodate a 30 cm thick cable.

The completed work is part of the construction of facilities to connect Baltic Power to the National Electricity System. The key element here will be an onshore substation located in Osieki Lęborskie, some 8 km from Lubiatow.

It is worth noting that the spoil generated during the drilling will be used to reconstruct beaches disturbed by storms. In turn, the work itself was carried out in such a way as to minimize its impact on the environment.
